What is Field? Michael Pisaro and the Poetics of Geo-sound

This event is an exploration of the intersection of composition, text and field recording. American composer Michael Pisaro, a member of the Wandelweiser collective, will talk about his recent CDs July Mountain (the score of which develops from a poem by Wallace Stevens) and Crosshatches, a collaboration with Japanese sound artist Toshiya Tsunoda. A panel of respondents will comment on the work presented: architect Paul Bavister (UCL/ Bartlett) and poet-critics Carol Watts (Birkbeck) and Drew Milne (Cambridge).
The very first Alloa Poetry Jamboree is confirmed as a going concern, running 2 – 4 November, and featuring Tom Leonard, Lila Matsumoto, Peter Manson, Drew Milne, Bill Herbert, Andrew Duncan, Jim Ferguson, Donny O’Rourke, Kathleen Jamie, Dorothy Alexander, nick-e melville, David Kinloch, Samantha Walton, Frank Kuppner, Gerry Loose and Jennifer Williams.

This event marks the beginning of John Kinsella’s residence as this year’s Judith E Wilson Visiting Poetry Fellow.
John Kinsella has written over 20 books of poetry, as well as plays and fiction. His recent books include ‘The New Arcadia’ (2005); Shades of the Sublime & Beautiful (2008); ‘Divine Comedy: Journeys Through a
Regional Geography’ (2010); and ‘Activist Poetics: Anarchy in the Avon Valley’ ( 2010).
Sophie Mayer’s latest collection is ‘The Private Parts of Girls’ (Salt, 2011). She is the author of ‘The Cinema of Sally Potter: A Politics of Love’ (2009) and a regular contributor to Sight & Sound.
Drew Milne’s book’s of poetry include ‘The Damage: new and selected poems’ (2001), ‘Mars Disarmed’ (2002) and ‘Go Figure’ (2003).
